5 Tracks for This Week’s Grind: Terror Jr, Skepta, Nadia Rose and More

Get up from the slumber of the long weekend with the help of this week’s mix, featuring tunes from the likes of Grime artist Skepta, Londoner Nadia Rose and many more.

1) Terror Jr, “Sugar”

This is Terror Jr’s second single following their musician’s debut track, “3 Strikes”, which shot them to fame after being used as a backtrack in a Kylie Jenner advertisement. Some even speculate that the vocalist of Terror Jr and Kylie Jenner might be one and the same. But we digress. “Sugar” provides a different listening experience, with the surreal almost Grimes-influenced synth pop soundscape that’s enhanced with the usage of auto-tune.

2) Skepta, “Man”

Grime artist Skepta samples Queens of The Stone Age’s “Regular John” in this track, reworking the guitar into the production. The lyrics touch on how Skepta values his social life, and how he doesn’t front like a sell-out artiste. In fact, his long-awaited album, Konnichiwa, is coming out this week. Several big names, including Pharrell, were listed to be part of the production. We’ll be keeping a lookout!

3) Nadia Rose, “Boom”

One of South London’s very own rising female MCs, Nadia Rose’s got a sick flow. Her freestyle videos have got her fans hyped up for an original track, and “Boom” definitely came through. With trippy visuals courtesy of Reece Proctor, this music video follows Nadia as she gets down for a night out with her mates. You can’t help but feel as though you desperately want to be part of her squad.

4) Zak Abel, “These Are The Days (Cautious Clay Remix)”

Another lad hailing from the UK, Zak Abel rose to fame in 2015 due to his raw, soulful vocals. The remix of his track by Washington DC’s very own Cautious Clay has made use of the punchy vibe in the original and ups the ante on the funk, spotlighting Zak’s crooning voice with the help of subtle flutes and a sax solo breakdown.

5) Eastside, “Ellie (Ark Patrol Remix)”

Hawaiian producer Ark Patrol has provided his masterful hand at production for this remix of Eastside’s “Ellie”. Hands down, this is one of our favorite works from him. Ark has a deft way of remaking this slow paced duo-track cover into a mix you can definitely get down with, especially with his electronic pop and EDM references done just right.
