FENTY PUMA by Rihanna Fall/Winter 2017: An After School Special

Rihanna takes over Paris Fashion Week for the FENTY PUMA by Rihanna Fall/Winter 2017. The show, themed “Fenty University” was set in a library space with looks modeled after school fits.

The “Fenty University” show, held on March 6, 2017, in The National Library of France, was where the FENTY PUMA by Rihanna Fall/Winter 2017 line was showcased. Here are 10 of our favorite moments from the show.

While the fashion industry might be critical towards celebrities who venture into fashion, the FENTY PUMA by Rihanna Fall/Winter 2017 collection blows these mindsets out of the water. The line featured nifty patchwork reminiscent of the work of Junya Watanabe, while still staying true her personal edge.

Our first favorite look was worn by model and activist, Adowa Aboah.

The latest collection also revealed the Suede Creepers in new colorways. Model Max Fieschi rocked a pair in bright banana yellow that’s sure to be a hit with both guys and girls.

While most of the collection was doused in highly saturated colors, several looks stayed true to the goth theme, reminiscent of the debut collection premiered at New York Fashion Week a year ago. Model Zhengyang Zhang was the very picture of street-goth with an all-black fit, set apart with sportswear influences and copious amounts of velvet.

Some looks were influenced by the SS17 collection, with pastel colors blending seamlessly into a gym-ready outfit.

Model EZ, known for her androgynous look, was spotted on the runway dressed like a frat boy on top, paired with a fun and flirty asymmetrical pleated piece on the bottom. We dig this pairing.

Several looks throughout the collection were emblazoned with “1988”, the year Rihanna was born. The collection is a celebration of her existence, and for good reason. Not everyone gets to see their song (not even one that was promoted as a single) go Platinum and get awarded the Humanitarian of the Year shortly after.

The “Fenty University” theme carried through the show. Books were used to accessorize the looks in a way that made models look street smart and book smart.

Teddy bear backpacks were also paired with some of the looks. While they certainly aren’t a novel idea, we still, very much, would like to cop one anyway.

Much has been said about the trend of outerwear worn half-on and half-off, and a quick look at this Instagram page documenting Rihanna’s looks will tell you that she has pretty much been one of the central figures who popularized “not wearing clothes properly”. The one piece that’s bang on this trend is an off-shoulder top that resembles a soccer jersey.

The show, staged inside a library, emphasized the show theme further with the use of study tables as a runway and lockers as a backdrop. This show almost makes us want to go back to school.
