Built on a foundation of British music and subculture, it’s no surprise Fred Perry has released a new collection titled the Fred Perry Spring Summer 2014 Menʼs Authentic 45ʼs, inspired by the iconic 45 RPM record.

The collection features details from records applied to classic Fred Perry styles. Referencing the graphics and colors of vinyls, the collection celebrates the unique relationship between the Laurel Wreath and British music and subculture.

Why the 45 record? The short answer is that it changed the way people listened to music. It was introduced in 1949 by RCA Victor as a smaller, more durable replacement of higher fidelity quality for the heavy 78 records of that time. Lightweight, of better quality, and colorful (each genre boasted its own vinyl color), the 45 was an instant hit amongst adolescents in the fifties.

A highlight from the Menʼs Authentic 45ʼs is a 45ʼs Engineered Stripe Shirt. This slim fit, two button tennis shirt with engineered stripe details is inspired by design details found on early 80s record designs. The monochrome shirt is offset with a pop of color on the underside of the placket and a top black button designed to replicate the centre of a ʼ45 vinyl. The shirt is of course finished with a Laurel Wreath embroidery.

The Fred Perry SS14 Men’s Authentic Collection will be available exclusively end January at the Fred Perry Authentic Shop, ION Orchard #B3-01
