Hidden Gems From STAR 360: Japan Made

Hidden Gems From STAR 360: Japan Made

It’s easy to overlook hidden gems when there’s so much to buy. In this edition, we take a look at a selection of quality products from Star 360 that have roots in Japanese design and heritage.

Onitsuka Tiger

A brand that’s synonymous with Japanese heritage and aesthetics, Onitsuka Tiger has stood the test of time, with its sneakers sought after by footwear aficionados even till today.

Its Mexico 66 model, arguably the most iconic of all Onitsuka Tiger sneakers, turns 50 this year. In celebration of this, the retro racer receives the premium treatment it truly deserves.

The Metallic Pack (S$189 per pair) is as grand as it gets. It consists of three Mexico 66 sneakers which come in gold, silver and bronze colorways. A white midsole offsets the shine of the foil uppers, while Onitsuka Tiger’s signature lettering is retained on the heel flap.

Patrick

Patrick is a Japan-based sneaker label that’s loved for its eye-catching lines. The shoes are fun and offer a casual vibe, often coming in quirky designs and colors that represent the carefree and comfortable DNA that the brand champions.

Fresh off Patrick’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection is the Quebec (S$219), a minimalist and clean-looking tennis-inspired sneaker that’s made from smooth leather.

Perforations along the side of the sneaker add breathability and a touch of fine detailing to this heritage shoe. Patrick shoes are exclusive to STAR 360 in Singapore.

Spingle

Spingle has made a name for itself, having established its base in Hiroshima, Japan, and keeping to the tradition of fine craftsmanship. Every single pair of shoes from Spingle is handcrafted in the factory by skilled craftsmen — from stitching of uppers to the finishing process.

Its sneakers are made with a traditional vulcanizing method that ensures the highest quality is met, and they feature a unique curved outsole design for durability and grip.

For its latest collection, which can only be found in STAR 360 stores, Spingle pays homage to British culture. The SPM 210 (S$239) features British Royal Guard cartoon prints all over the uppers. Looking for something more classic? Opt for the SPM 226 (S$239), which comes in evergreen tartan prints, or the SPM 188 (S$239), which has a bright yellow appearance.

Master-Piece

Function, quality and style are the hallmarks of Master-Piece’s backpacks and totes, each of which is expertly crafted by the company’s skilled artisans in its factory in Osaka, Japan.

Founded by Mr. Taichi Fujimatsu in 1994, its pieces have gone on to become world-renowned. Each design is usually available in very limited quantities due to design exclusivity, and STAR 360 is proud to be the only retailer in Singapore to stock the brand.

Master-Piece’s Over V6 bagpack (S$259) uses a tough nylon canvas mixed with vegetable-tanned leather suede straps. Over time, the bag will develop a patina that’s unique to the wearer. A large main compartment stores the important stuff, while a small front compartment offers easy access to knick knacks.

The Over V6 messenger bag (S$229) offers the same solid construction and material, but in slimmer form. An internal divider keeps laptops and tablets protected, and zipped compartments can be found within and outside the bag to help keep things organized.

The above products are available at STAR 360 stores: Bugis Junction #02-11A; Paragon #03-08, Suntec City (North Wing) #01-458/462; Velocity @ Novena Square #01-24; Wheelock Place #02-07/08.
