Kult Gallery Celebrates Filipino Street Art with “Pusakal”

The Pusakal exhibition by Kult Gallery celebrates the urban art scene in the Philippines.

Pusakal, by Kult Gallery and Filipino artist Anjo Bolardo, gives Singapore art fans a taste of Filipino urban art.

According to the press release, the word “Pusakal” means “stray cat” in Tagalog, and it encapsulates the spirit of the urban art scene in the Philippines. The artworks featured are curated from the heart of Manilla to the islands of Visayas and Mindanao, and they contain satirical references about society and advertising. They also bring attention to the distinctive characteristics of each city.

The exhibition will showcase the “evolution of expression” through the works of over 20 Filipino artists. Participating artists include Bart Bros, Diyalogo Designs, Kolown and visual artist Kidlat.

Priced at S$30, the first zine Biyaheng Langit combines images of the vehicle with religious imagery, while Paradise is Very Nice, priced at S$15, pays homage to images of sunrise and sunsets on jeepneys.

Other items available for purchase include sticker packs and commemorative t-shirts by Kult Gallery (images below).

Each sticker pack comes with stickers rife with common millennial sayings and Tagalog profanities. The sticker pack is priced at S$9.90 each, while the limited edition t-shirts are priced at S$45.
