Death Note focuses on Light Turner (Nat Wolff), a high school student who becomes drunk with power after obtaining a notebook that lets him kill anyone he wishes.

In order to kill someone, Light needs to write the victim’s name in the titular notebook. In the trailer, we see him using the book to rid the world of evil, under the guise of a vigilante named Kira.

Light eventually catches the attention of L (Lakeith Stanfield), a world-famous detective bent on stopping Kira and his mass murders. In addition, the trailer also gives us a look at Ryuk (Willem DaFoe), the God of Death who dropped the Death Note on Earth out of boredom.

According to a press release, the movie will premiere exclusively to Netflix members on August 25, 2017.
