5 Hot Sneaker Sightings in Music Videos

5 Hot Sneaker Sightings in Music Videos

Sometimes when you face the music, you find yourself noticing so much more hidden in the details. Here’s a list of our favorite sneaker sightings in music videos (warning: major booty ahead).

1. Nike Boots – Wale’s “Nike Boots”

Wale is a sneakerhead to the nth degree. Some obvious signs: his appearance in the 2015 documentary Sneakerheadz and that his discography is filled with innumerable sneaker-related lyrics – “Nike Boots”, being the most defining one of all his music.

Watch him stunt a pair of sneakers most of us can only dream of having and get bumpin’ to the addictive track.

2. Air Jordan 6 Retro GS “Game Royal” – Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda”

Nicki Minaj has tottered around town in sky high heels, so we wouldn’t have pegged her a sneaker girl. But her 2014 hit, “Anaconda”, in which she’s seen in an iconic scene (1:19) in some really fly Air Jordan 6 Retro GS “Game Royals”, changed things. Oh, and peep emo Drake in Air Jordan 3 Samples at the end.

3. Adidas Superstar – Run-DMC & Aerosmith, “Walk this Way”

We can’t talk about the crossover between music and streetwear without crediting Run-D.M.C. Their track, “My Adidas” back in 1986 shot the group to superstardom, and they popularized wearing Adidas shell-toe Superstars unlaced, with tongues pushed up. No surprise that Run-D.M.C. eventually became the first hip-hop group to be endorsed by Adidas for a cool million bucks.

Unfortunately, “My Adidas” wasn’t blessed with a music video, but “Walk This Way”, a track featuring Aerosmith, more than makes up for it.

4. Nike Air Jordan – a whole lot of them – Jinusean’s “Tell Me One More Time”

Koreans are sure well-versed in their street style and kicks game, but this rap duo takes it to another level. Known as Jinusean, this duo is one of the OGs that helped pave the way for Korean hip-hop.

In “Tell Me One More Time”, Jinusean flexes their Air Jordan game at the 1-minute mark, right after a Run-DMC parody. They have some of the most head-turning pairs within the collection such as the fragment x Jordan 1s, the ‘Tokyo’ Vs and the ‘Eminem’ Air Jordan IVs.

Member Sean is known amongst fans to be a massive Jordans collector, so if “Tell Me One More Time” is just a teaser, we can’t imagine what his full collection looks like.

5. PUMA IGNITE Limitless – The Weeknd’s “Starboy”

Ahead an announcement of his collaboration with PUMA, The Weeknd dropped the Daft Punk-assisted bop, “Starboy”, which went on to top charts everywhere. Soon after, he was named as a PUMA ambassador and creative collaborator, and is the face of the latest Run the Streets campaign, first launched last November.

We all know a product placement when we see one, but the appearance of the PUMA IGNITE evoKNIT in the “Starboy” video was done rather tastefully. The accompanying visuals were a treat, and The Weeknd going ham with a neon cross? A sight for sore eyes.
