Karl Lagerfeld Lends His Touch to the Sofitel So Singapore

The Sofitel So Singapore has finally opened its doors. Occupants can look forward to the Karl Lagerfeld designed “The Lion’s Seal” emblem, a bespoke bathrobe, and read from a library of books curated by the Kaiser himself.

The Sofitel So Singapore has finally opened its doors. Nevermind that the landmark building boasts a neo-classical façade, what most are interested in are the objects Karl Lagerfeld was commissioned to create for the hotel.

The Kaiser’s most important contribution is “The Lion’s Seal”, an emblem of the hotel which draws inspiration from the birth of “Singa Pura“, the Lion City.

Karl Lagerfeld commented, “Singapore is an Asian powerhouse – the city of the future. Stories of its history and evolution have inspired me, especially the discovery of the island and the mystical lion it was named after. The lion has historically symbolized courageousness, elegance and leadership – attributes aligned to the visionary Sofitel So label. The Emblem is a result of that combined inspiration – one that will be special to its guests and special in the country.”

Other Kaiser commissioned objects include the BooKubeDoorKnockers on the So Heritage Wing and the bespoke bathrobe featuring the red and white ‘The Lion’s Seal’ embroider. An intimate La BibiloteK decked with a collection of books, curated by Lagerfeld himself, sits beside the Xperience Bar. Of course, the front-of-house ambassadors are dressed in garde-robe from the fashion designer’s namesake collection, KARL LAGERFELD.

The 134-room hotel is the third addition to Sofitel So’s expanding portfolio. Conceived as a global collection, the two upcoming opening Sofitel So are planned in Mumbai (2015) and Rio (2016).
