The Emoji Movie Trailer is Out and it’s…Meh

We never really asked for this, but well, here goes nothing.

The Emoji Movie is a 2017 release by Sony Pictures Animation, but the trailer is pretty much underwhelming.

The character promoting the film can’t get any more unimpressed than the “Meh” Emoji, which is what it is. For 35 seconds, he stands and runs through the commentary with indifference, and the trailer ends with a pretty bad poop joke.

The Emoji Movie has a surprisingly strong line-up, with names like James Corden and T.K. Miller in the cast. The plot is set in Textopolis, a city where the emojis reside, waiting to be used by the phone’s user. The main character Gene (voiced by T.K. Miller) was born without a filter, and has multiple expressions as opposed to every standard emoji’s singular feature.

Gene goes on a quest to become “normal” alongside Hi-5 (James Corden) and Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer). They go on a journey across the apps on the phone to find the solution for Gene. The film’s turning point includes a threat that places all the emojis in danger, placing their fate on the three friends.

The film by Sony is written and directed by Tony Leondis (who previously directed Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters) and is co-written by Eric Siegel (producer of Men At Work).

Set to show in August 2017, let’s hope that the strong cast will make up for the otherwise uninspiring plotline (and please, no more poop jokes).
