10 Things Seen & Heard at San Diego Comic-Con 2015

San Diego Comic-Con is THE platform where pop culture comes alive, and we’ve rounded up 10 of the juiciest news to come out of the convention.

1) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Official Trailer Revealed

There has been much talk surrounding the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice blockbuster movie, from the questionable casting of Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman to whether the other superheros that make up the Justice League will make cameo appearances. Some of these questions have been laid to rest, thanks to the official trailer that was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con. All we have to do now is replay the trailer over and over while waiting with bated breath for the movie to hit cinemas next year.

Who says only the good guys can have fun? This refreshing take on the superhero genre sees supervillains executing missions in exchange for clemency. Foes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and more band together to do good for once, and the teaser trailer seems to have been well received. Expect an official trailer out in due time.

3) Deadpool Sees the Light of Day

Long stuck in development hell, Marvel’s Deadpool will officially be making a return to the silver screne, following a cringeworthy portrayal in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009. The loudmouthed anti-hero will still be played by Ryan Reynolds, thanks to their mirroring personalities. First impressions of the film seem to be good, as Deadpool spews expletives, gets pretty violent, and breaks the fourth wall as he did in the comics. Watch the leaked trailer here.

4) Star Wars’ Real Awakening

The appearance of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, cast members of the original Star Wars trilogy and the upcoming sequel, brought back immense feelings of nostalgia to fans who attended the comic con. When the sequel was announced, no one would have expected the trio to reprise their roles, but that’s exactly what they did. Having their presence in the new movie would no doubt put the storyline in context and offer the comfort of continuity.

5) Heroes Makes a Return

Does anyone still remember Masi Oka wielding a samurai sword and showcasing some Asian pride in the TV series Heroes? Yes, that’s the show that somehow went downhill as the seasons progressed. NBC has deemed it worthy of a revival, bringing back several cast members (such as Oka) to play their usual roles while adding new characters as well.

6) More of The Walking Dead Coming Your Way

We’ve all been hooked on the zombie apocalyptic series that is The Walking Dead, and the upcoming season six will be as much about fending against the undead as it is about comprehending the unpredictable human behavior. But that’s not all. A new spinoff series, titled Fear the Walking Dead, will be making its debut, featuring a whole new cast and centered on the prequel story.

7) Who You Gonna Call? Ghostbusters!

A remake of the popular Ghostbusters was always in order, and director Paul Feig has given us a glimpse at the new, all-female ghostbusting team via a post on Twitter. The movie stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, and will be released about a year from now. Judging from the cast, it’s safe to say we can expect plenty of laughs.

8) A First Look at Warcraft

Video games rarely become good movie adaptations, but Warcraft might be the exception. The popular strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment that has humans, orcs and elves fighting each other is being made into a film, due to hit the screens in June 2016. Early posters look very promising. If successful, this could very well pave the way for a Starcraft movie adaptaion as well.

9) Hugh Jackman Bids Wolverine Farewell

Hugh Jackman (San Diego Comic-Con 2015)

No one has reprised the role of a comic book character more times than Hugh Jackman, with the Australian actor having played a convincing Wolverine a whopping seven times. Jackman will be bulking up for one last Wolverine standalone movie, and possibly a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse, before moving on to other roles. We’ll miss those adamantium claws, smoked cigars and the chiseled physique which made Wolverine the center of the X-Men – and every woman’s – universe.

10) Everyone Needs a Family Guy

Last but not least, season 14 of Family Guy will be airing real soon. Judging from the comic con trailer, the suggestive show about a dysfunctional family from Rhode Island still has its crude humor intact. Seth MacFarlane continues to voice some of the main characters (Peter, Stewie and Brian to be exact), but our ears will be peeled for the voices of guest stars like Adam West, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Glenn Close.
