5 Tracks for This Week’s Grind: Kendrick Lamar, Dream Koala, French Montana and More

Here are some tracks, new and old, that we’ve been crazy vibin’ to.

1) Kendrick Lamar ft. Lloyd & August Alsina, “Swimming Pools (Remix)”

We chanced upon this gem while trawling the Internet, and boy do we wish we found it sooner. Lloyd’s rework of this hit switches up the dynamics, and the addition of August Alsina’s smooth vocals complete this lengthy track. Kendrick would be proud.

2) Dream Koala, “We Can’t Be Friends”

French producer Dream Koala might be only 18 years old, but the work he’s put in this track shows a maturity far beyond his age. Like an intense dream that sticks to the edges of your consciousness even as you slowly wake up to a new day, the synth sounds and mellow guitar chords will put anyone in the mood to drift away.

3) Pascäal, “Drowning In You”

This is an equally dreamy instrumental track, complete with percussion undernotes, going heavy on the beats and high on the drums. Hell, it even includes a sample from Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love”. Now we can’t possibly complain once you pull out the Queen B card.

4) Swindle ft. Ash Riser, “London To LA”

Even if you’re not into grime or dubstep, you should check out this song solely for its glorious jazzy breakdown. Swindle’s love for jazz-fusion practically sings in this track, with the trumpet and strings neatly evened out by solid electronic tunes.

5) French Montana, “Figure It Out (ft. Nas & Kanye West)”

French Montana delivered his new mixtape, Wave Gods, as promised and you can’t help but notice the star-studded tracklist that includes A$AP Rocky and Future. This piece in particular features Nas and Kanye West, with the former spittin’ on the beats and the latter crooning for the hook.
