5 Tracks for This Week’s Grind: Gentle Bones, LVNDVN, Jorja Smith and More

To get you pumped and ready for the weekend, we present a mix from crooners such as Gentle Bones, LVNDVN, Jorja Smith and more.

1) Gentle Bones, “Geniuses and Thieves (Koflow Remix)”

Renowned Singapore DJ and DMC champion Koflow took to the decks to bless our ears with a reworked version of indie-pop artist Gentle Bones’ “Geniuses and Thieves”. Having shared the stage with the likes of Kanye West, Nas and Raekwon, it’s a pleasure to see Koflow put it on for a fellow homegrown musician. The original track was already a bop, with a heavily synth-driven electronic sound that’s a major change from Gentle Bones’ previous work. This remix features trap influences with a heavy bassline that’s still thrumming in our heads after the track ends.

2) LVNDVN, “Plans”

LVNDVN (pronounced “Landon”) is our go-to artist whenever we’re feeling a little over The Weeknd and Bryson Tiller (yes that does happen from time to time). LVNDVN produces excellent R&B-infused tracks that are perfect for the bedroom, with the man himself stating that “Plans” has “no lyric to read from, there’s just you and the moment”. Featuring a great mix, quality production and vocals reminiscent of The Weeknd’s earlier work, it’s no wonder we keep coming back for more.

3) Jorja Smith, “Where Did I Go?”

Jorja Smith has amassed a steady following on Instagram, but it’s not just her good looks that are paving the way to the top for her. She was Apple Music’s “New Artist of the Week” last week, and the featured track which put her in the spotlight is right here. It may sound very much like an Adele song at the beginning, but as soon as the sultry vocals and drums kick in, you’re in for a whole new ride.

4) Taurean Steele & Sentry, “Get Down”

These two London-bred MCs have teamed up to release their debut EP, titled ThunderGround. One of the tracks from the album has been given the video treatment, featuring the boys hanging out at home with their friends and spitting bars to a beat produced by Whos Sonikley.

5) AM!R, “Dirty Whispers”

This has been the snazziest discovery for us this week, taking us back to days when neo-soul was all the rage. AM!R’s smooth vocals are the perfect accompaniment to the funk-infused beat, so whenever you need to cut loose from the trap-style tracks saturating the current music scene, this is the perfect breakaway.
