In this week’s mix, we tune in to releases from the likes of Keiynan Lonsdale, Miike Snow and Snakehips, that are sure to get you pumped for the weekend.
The original version of this track came from Swedish trio Miike Snow’s third album, iii, and was all about synth-heavy soundscapes and retro vibes. Looping choppy samples, heavy drums and an infectious beat that made the original such a hit, have now been mixed with contributing verses from rap duo, Run The Jewels.
This is a case of an old crowd favorite meeting the new “It Boy”, and damn does it work wonders. Recorded back in 2015, this track is produced by the U.K. duo Snakehips, who were responsible for bringing us “All My Friends” and the classic remix of Banks’ “Warm Water”. In this track, their R&B-inspired electronic beats act as the base for Anderson .Paak’s soulful vocals to come through.
Former MTV VJ Keiynan Lonsdale has taken a break from the small screen in favor of the airwaves. Even though this track was released just a few weeks back, the 200,000 plays shows that he’d draw in fans no matter where he goes. His vocals are reminiscent of The Weeknd, but the production of the track speaks otherwise, with deep neo-soul infused beats.
Rapper Kevin Gates rides his successful streak in 2016 by releasing the music video for “Not The Only One”, his latest drop from his debut album, Islah. The video shows him in Berlin, Germany, in an ushanka hat and Ferragamos. He lays down verses about his trials and tribulations over the trap-based production, while offering us generous views of Berlin’s beautiful architecture.
As soon as the track starts playing, we know we’re in for another FKJ treat. This time though, we get a double dose, as R&B singer Tom Bailey’s smooth vocals come into the picture. This track is definitely a summer jam, with its carefree arrangement of twinkling beats and a synth melody that progresses in line with the vocals.
