The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is considering 3-on-3 basketball as an official event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Good news street ballers, your beloved sport might be added to the Tokyo Olympics in 2022.
According to the Associated Press, it is one of 60 sports being considered by the International Olympic Committee advisory panel. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) was actually close to bringing half-court basketball to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. However, that plan was scrapped due to a lack of resources.
Since skateboarding and sport climbing are already Olympic events, FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann believes street basketball would make a valuable addition to the event and help attract a younger generation of viewers.
The IOC will reach its decision this Friday, June 9.
