Devil Wears Prada Musical Written by Sir Elton John? Groundbreaking

Devil Wears Prada is headed for Broadway.

Devil Wears Prada to be made into a musical written by Sir Elton John

Devil Wears Prada, the iconic 2006 film based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, is being made into a musical. Sir Elton John will write the production.

“Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting. I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture,” he said in a statement to EW.

The musical will be produced by Kevin McCollum, and Paul Rudnick (who previously wrote the screenplays for In & Out and Addams Family Values) will be penning the lyrics inspired by both the film and the book.

The Devil Wears Prada is a seminal film starring Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, the ruthless editor-in-chief of the fictitious Runway fashion magazine. Anna Hathaway plays the doe-eyed clueless assistant, Andy Sachs, who slowly, but eventually proves her worth (in Chanel boots, no less). The film raked in $326 million worldwide, so we’re surprised it took this long to want to take it to the stage.

“To bring The Devil Wears Prada to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story,” said Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions and McCollum. “We needed artists whose work has run the gamut from music and publishing to drama and fashion. We could think of only two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick. That’s all!”

While the production timeline and casting have yet to be announced, we can’t help but think that there definitely will be a number dedicated solely to Cerulean Blue.
