Heavy duty iPhone users won’t have to plug in a powerbank or attach an unsightly battery case, as Apple produces its own Smart Battery Case to take charge (no pun intended).
Powerbanks and battery cases that juice up a smartphone aren’t new in the market, but they present limitations despite their features. A charging cable is needed to connect powerbank to phone, and battery cases tend to be too bulky to fit comfortably into a pocket.
Apple has stepped in to fill this gap, with its very own battery case for the iPhone 6 and 6S. Made from silky smooth silicone, the iPhone Smart Battery Case looks like a standard silicone case, but with a protruding hump on its back where the battery is.
The new case is touted to provide an additional 25 hours of talk-time, 20 hours of video playback or 18 hours of LTE usage. Battery status is displayed on the iPhone’s Lock Screen and Notification Center, and there’s no need to switch on the case, as it automatically charges the iPhone when necessary.
Available in Charcoal Grey and White, the iPhone Smart Battery Case retails at S$148 and can be purchased from Apple’s online store.
