G-SHOCK x SBTG Collection Launch

SBTG’s signature punk/militia style dominate the special pop-up store

Take a walk along Orchard Road this weekend and you won’t miss it: a glass “box” sitting atop the stairs at Wisma Atria draped in camouflage pattern, with G-SHOCK branding, the SBTG insignia and SBTG’s modus operandi “Destroy to Create” that will leave you asking, “What’s that about?”

Well, on Friday, February 2, a crowd of media and guests including The Sam Willows and Mae Tan (@marxmae) arrived at the “box” to find out it was a special pop-up store constructed for the launch of the G-SHOCK x SBTG DW-5600 watch and capsule collection comprising an aloha shirt, a cap and a skate deck.

The pop-up also serves as the launchpad for the G-SHOCK ORIGINS campaign, one that will run throughout 2018 to celebrate the DW-5600 watch model. Known as the square-faced model, the DW-5600 is widely recognized as one of the original models released by G-SHOCK. Its appeal has stood the test of time and its absolute toughness is second to none.

The man behind SBTG, Mr. Sabotage (Mark Ong)

Mr. Sabotage (Mark Ong) of SBTG himself was on hand at the event to launch his watch. He shed light on the inspiration behind its design and let on that the addition of the bullbar on the watch, for example, was a decision driven by nostalgia – the first ever G-SHOCK watch he owned had a bullbar on it.

Mr. Teppei Takahashi, Assistant General Manager of Timepiece Division at Casio Singapore, also gave a speech at the event. He thanked Mr Sabotage for a successful collaboration and also talked about the ORIGINS campaign and its mission to working closely with creators and originators in Southeast Asia.

Perhaps a highlight of the event was that guests had first dibs on the limited edition G-SHOCK x SBTG DW-5600 capsule collection, before it was available for sale to the public the next day.
