We’ve seen the Nike Mag before, but not the version that comes with fully functional power laces.
October 21st 2015 was the date that Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly time-traveled to in Back to the Future II, and like many people worldwide, we all hoped that something special would happen when the actual day came to pass.
Well, something did happen, and it left us spellbound. Nike announced that the Nike Mag shoes worn by McFly in the movie will be re-released, with fully functional power laces no less. The last time we saw these shoes in real life was back in 2011, when 1,500 pairs were sold to raise US$5.6 million for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
According to Nike, the shoes feature an “individually responsive system that senses the wearer’s motion to provide adaptive on-demand comfort and support”. It’s also intent to use such technology across multiple sports “future game-changing footwear with unprecedented performance features”.
The brand even delivered an actual working pair to Fox, along with a handwritten letter from Tinker Hatfield. Hearing the whirring sound of the power laces getting to work is like music to our ears:

The Nike Mag is set to be available in Spring 2016, but with one catch: It will only be available via auction, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Time to save up the money if you really want a pair.
