Kung-Fu Kenny takes a step back from the red and black theme to unveil a shoe that has a “slipper-like” aesthetic.

Very few artists have the accolades that Kendrick Lamar can boast: a Pulitzer Prize for music, multiple Grammys and MTV VMA Awards, and now the fourth iteration of his signature sneaker from Nike dubbed the Kendrick Lamar Nike Cortez Basic Slip.

In contrast to previous collabs, this edition boasts a different vibe as they have completely been stripped of laces. These shoes have also abandoned ties to “DAMN.” (Kendrick’s Pulitzer Prize winning album released in 2017) and the Kung Fu Kenny persona. Thanks to mita sneakers, we get a first look at the new collab.

The sneaker boasts a White and Wolf Grey upper accented by Turf Orange details and a Thunder Blue Swoosh. The puffy tongue with the Thunder Orange strip down the center with the words “House Shoes” emblazoned on it is arguably the statement detail on the sneaker. Having a strip down the middle seems to be a constant theme across K-Dot’s collabs with Nike. Found on the inner lining are the words “Preferably wear with shorts and tall socks” – a nod to Kendrick’s Cali roots. Found on the heel is a clasp tightening system, another unique detail rarely seen in sneakers, but a feature that emphasizes the security and comfort that the sneaker affords.

The sneaker is rumored to drop on September 22 with a US$100 price tag, a small price to pay for fans of the rapper and the Swoosh alike.
