Serena Williams urges all women to “Dream Crazier” in Nike’s latest powerful ad

Nike rolls out yet another powerful ad since Colin Kaepernick’s “Dream Crazy” last year.

Nike’s latest ad “Dream Crazier” addresses society’s double standards for women in sport. And it couldn’t have had a more fitting narrator.

Serena Williams took the lead in the ad, which was released yesterday (Singapore time). The tennis player’s voice plays over footage of female athletes as she called out the double standards that she and her peers often experience. “When we stand for something, we’re unhinged. When we’re too good there’s something wrong with us. And if we get angry, we’re hysterical, irrational, or just being crazy,” she says.

What Nike and Serena Williams stand for in the “Dream Crazier” ad doesn’t just apply to elite athletes. It’s a call to action for every woman to wield their inner strength and power through sports and an active lifestyle.

Rosemary St. Clair, VP and GM for Nike Women, reiterated this notion. In a feature with Nike news, she said, “There are more and more ways for women to participate in sport. When they hit a PR in a race, deadlift their body weight, nail an arm balance or even just cover their first mile — it all creates confidence by allowing them to say, ‘I did that.’ ”

“Despite our strides, we won’t rest until the answer to the question, ‘Is sport for you?’ shifts from, ‘No, it’s crazy’ to one where all women can emphatically say, ‘Yes, it’s for me’,” she continued.
