In Occupy #Straatsnaps, we invite professional and amateur photographers from all over the world to take over our Instagram account (@straat0sphere) for a weekend. Last weekend’s edition was contributed by Qi Rong (@cookiesnqream).
I came back from Taiwan recently. I had absolutely no idea what to expect as we embarked on the trip with no prior research. When I shot this I only had a mini tripod that managed to take the weight of my setup (thankfully). This reminds me of one of the photos I took when I just started out.
The power of social media – Truly, social media is an amazing tool if used for the right purposes. About a year ago, I came across this photo and I’ve always wanted to find the place. Unfortunately, it was in Tokyo. When my company sent me to Tokyo, I showed my friends the photo and we actually managed to find the place. I was pretty amazed.
If you haven’t shot a performance, concert or DJs, give it a spin. Yes that was a pun. Shooting people on stages with bright lights are probably my favourite. I love how the lights are always changing and almost no two photos look the same.
I shot this while on a photowalk with@calvin.pkl. Sometimes all you need is one moment of inspiration.
Sneakers. This was what got me started in the first place. About 3 years ago, before Instagram came to Android, we were shooting our shoes with our mobile phones and posting them to Facebook groups. Some still do that now, and it’s great! But it’s also amazing how the sneaker community actually had some people constantly upping their shoe shot game and unknowingly inspiring so many others to actually pick up photography. It was never a competition, I’m not sure about now, but it still shouldn’t be.
The classic iPhone shot. This was one of the ways people made creative use of their devices and still do now. I wonder if the trend will ever die out?
