American footwear designer, Salehe Bembury and New Balance have collaborated to revive NB’s long-forgotten 2002 model. For this collaboration, Bembury channels his love for hiking and the great outdoors.
Inspired by canyons, the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002 gets a textured, earthy colorway, comprised of orange hairy suede, red leathers and yellow meshes.
The technology within the kicks has remained untouched. It retains the N-ergy and Abzord midsole that provide ample support and cushioning. Good enough, should you actually decide to take a hike in these shoes.
The shoes will arrive in a box featuring an orange-tinged illustration of canyons, a hint at the outdoorsy inspired sneakers that the box contains.
Perhaps the hiking inspiration also becomes a metaphor for Bembury’s scaling of heights in the fashion world. He started out designing shoes for discount footwear chain, Payless, but has since gone on to design at Yeezy Gap and Cole Haan. Bembury is currently the Vice President of Sneakers & Mens Footwear at Versace.
