In 2023, we saw Adidas pushing the basketball division higher than ever before. They made a mark with the release of the Crazy Infinity, the Harden Vol. 7, AE 1 and most recently, the long-awaited collaboration with Jerry Lorenzo, the Fear of God Athletics. Adidas’ designers have definitely been cooking, revolutionizing the designs of their basketball shoes to adopt a more molded and organic appearance. This is seen on many of the signature models, Trae Young 3 and D.O.N. Issue 5 to name a few.
In 2024, Adidas launched the 2024 collection: Chapter 2, consisting of both apparel and footwear line featuring the Mad IIInfinity. Named the ‘Carbon’ colorway, the Mad IIInfinity is almost all-black, with hints of Lucid blue found on the 3 Stripes logo and silvery accents across the combination of mesh, suede and synthetic leather upper. It is also equipped with an EVA midsole supported by TPU inserts, providing responsiveness and comfort while the rubber outsole delivers traction and durability. The shoe is updated with a new midfoot shank, providing added support with each step.
It is evident that the chunky design of the shoe is a nod to the Adidas Crazy Infinity that released last year and the original Crazy 1 – a sneaker that was modeled after the Audi TT Roadster and designed for Kobe Bryant when he was signed with Adidas.
The Mad IIInfinity carries the torch of the Crazy, or Kobe, line. If Kobe Bryant did not move over to Nike, these Crazy IIInfinity and Mad IIInfinity designs could have been part of his subsequent signature models after the Crazy 2.
The Mad IIInfinity is currently rumored to release on February 15 and will likely be available across Adidas online stores and select retailers. Stay tuned for more updates.
