The Nike Air Jordan 4 Sashiko, which drops on December 5, features a full navy blue upper with Japanese-inspired embroideries.
The AJ4 Sashiko adapts the traditional Japanese craft with an interesting twist. Instead of using one pattern all across the upper, the AJ4 Sashiko uses various patterns to enhance the layered look of the upper. The panels come in shades of navy, white and red, creating an effect similar to that of the “What the” Dunks and make the largely monotone colorway more attention-grabbing. Plus this construction makes each side completely different from the other.
On closer inspection, we can see that the midfoot and forefoot cages have been replaced with sashiko stitches. Other interesting touches are the lace eyelets and ankle collars which are made of navy translucent plastic, giving us a peek at the patterns underneath. On the heel tab, textures are added to the plastic to mirror the patterns seen on the rest of the upper.
To match up with the overall color scheme, the sneaker will arrive with red and blue laces. The tongue tab also gets a dark blue patch with a white embroidered Jumpman and red “Flight” text. Completing the AJ4 is a red insole and a sock liner with floral patterns.
