Even though Nike has given a lot of Air time to the Air Max Dn, they are set to honor the upcoming Air Max Day 2024 with the return with a classic from a decade ago – the Air Max 1 ‘Sport Royal’. An updated spin on the Air Max 1 ‘Sport Red’, the new ‘Royal and Volt’ colorway is set to bring back the iconic neon midsole and combine it with the OG upper.
Unlike the Air Max 1s from the 2010s, many of which were criticized for having a ‘boat-like’ shape, the new Air Max 1 ‘Royal and Volt’ delivers a shape and construction more attuned to the original releases from 1986. The sneaker will be based on the Air Max ‘86 silhouette, which means you can expect a streamlined toe box, breathable mesh upper, better sock liners and softer nubuck. It will also deliver a very plush sensation under foot by combining a pillowy polyurethane midsole that encases the massive ‘big bubble’ Air Max unit in the heel. These upgrades should make the sneaker very comfortable.
A completely unexpected move – Nike is set to deliver an Air Max 1-inspired wallet. The new accessory from the Swoosh uses leather panels that mirror the most iconic elements of the Air Max 1. Using a mix of blue and white leather, it recreates the Swoosh, mid guard, midsole lines and the Big Bubble Air Max unit. Details like the stitch lines are embroidered across the leather panels to complete the effect. These are rumored to drop alongside the Air Max Day 2024 kicks and will retail for US$30 (approx. S$40).
Nike has a lineup of Air Max kicks set to drop on March 26. This includes the muted Air Max Dn ‘Sail and Coconut’ (S$239), stealthy Air Max Dn ‘Black and Dark Smoke Grey’ (S$239) and the OG Air Max 1 ‘86 Royal Blue (S$239). Stay tuned for more updates.
