Calling all Andy Warhol fans; you might want to include Hong Kong in your vacation plans with this public exhibition and auction coming up this March.
The rare collection comprises more than 200 photographs taken by Andy Warhol during his pivotal trip to Hong Kong and Mainland China in 1982.
The visit was documented in his diaries and brought to life through this series of photograph, which picture everything from The Great Wall to the most unassuming corners of Beijing. Expect glimpses of Chinese bicycles, the the uniformity of Chinese Mao jackets, and his fascination with symbols and semiotics.
Each image captured makes for a photographic extension of Warhol’s artistic beliefs. Warhol in China is a rare opportunity to view Hong Kong and Beijing through Warhol’s eyes.
Jonathan Crockett, Head of 20th Century & Contemporary Art and Deputy Chairman for Phillips Asia, said, “This exhibition presents a rare opportunity to acquire photographs of Andy Warhol’s seminal trip to Hong Kong and Beijing in 1982 by the master of Pop himself, which have never been offered for sale in their entirety before.”
The works featured in the exhibition will be auctioned Phillips on 28th May 2017, with estimates starting at HK$50,000.
