Kiko Kostadinov and Asics have come together once again to create a runway worthy sneaker. Their latest creation is the Gel-Korika, a sneaker built from pieces within the Asics archive.
The sneaker takes the uppers from the Gelburst RS with alterations to fit a low top design. The midsole comes from the Gel-Nimbus 21, giving the sneaker a wider stance, which fits well with its runner-style design.
Kiko Kostadinov stuck to darker colors and sleeker lines for the Gel-Korika. Though based on retro basketball and running sneakers, the sneakers do not look busy or messy. Instead, the use of single-tone black and minimal Asics branding gives the sneaker a sleek and monochromatic appearance, which fits in with Kiko Kostadinov’s Autumn/Winter 2019 collection.
The Gel-Korika isn’t just good looking, it actually retains its performance running qualities as well. The Gel-Nimbus 21 Flytefoam midsole gives the sneaker the same bounce and shock absorption Asics running sneakers are known for.
A women’s version is available as well, with colorways designed by Laura and Deanna Fanning. These variants come in a vibrant hue of red, pink, purple and blue, creating an interesting and polarizing set of sneakers within the same collection.
You can cop a pair of the Gel-Korika at Dover Street Market Singapore at S$349. The sneaker comes in three colorways – Black/Black, Red Alert/Icy Morning and Classic Red/Baltic Jewel.
