The enigmatic Banksy takes a trip to war-torn Gaza, creates graffiti art that identifies with its residents, and even manages to make a satirical travel ad out of it.
The anonymous graffiti artist known as Banksy has been making a name for himself, thanks to his use of street art as a way of spreading political and social messages. His latest act sees him on the streets of war-torn Gaza, with the elusive artist filming his trip and turning it into a satirical travel ad.
Entering Gaza through a network of illegal tunnels, Banksy gives us a glimpse into the residents of Gaza as well as the destruction in the city. He then goes to work, painting images of a distressed man, a guard tower used as an amusement park swing, and a giant white kitten playing with a ball of string.
As usual, Banksy’s use of stencils and spray cans is immaculate, and the resulting artworks carry a poignant message that even the residents of Gaza can identify with. As one man puts it, “this cat tells the whole world that she is missing joy in her life. The cat found something to play with. What about our children?” If you weren’t already aware about the happenings in Gaza, this clip will open up your eyes.
