Singapore-based fictional archive brand, Foxtrot Uniform, announces its first-ever sneaker collaboration with Asics, based on the EX89. As Foxtrot Uniform specializes in curating retail experiences with a neo-vintage flair, their EX89 is infused with their signature neo-vintage treatment. Key detailing includes chalky edges, aged soles, faux glue stains, and cracked leather panels – all of which capture the nuanced aesthetic of a pristine vintage sneaker. The collaboration also delivers an upgraded upper with premium suede accents and leather detailing.
The EX89 is a basketball shoe based on an OG silhouette called the Gel-Extreme, designed by one of Asics’ most renowned designers, Toshikazu Kayano. It was known for its stability, support, and innovative Gel cushioning technology, making it a favorite among pro athletes. However, Asics has revived the Gel-Extreme as the EX89 made for modern daily usage.
The sneaker retains the iconic design of the Gel-Extreme, including layered leather panels and a distinctive outsole pattern. However, the sneaker sees upgrades in the following areas including the use of FF Blast, a lightweight and responsive cushioning technology for improved comfort and bounce. The presence of a sculpted heel also provides better stability and heel strike absorption. At the same time, the outsole pattern draws inspiration from the aerial view of a city, paying homage to Kayano’s inaugural US business trip in 1987.
The Foxtrot Uniform x Asics EX89 will be released on February 2 through foxtrot-uniform.net and Limited Edt at 10PM SGT. A wider global release will be followed on February 19 at select stores.
