There’s a documentary about the life of Hayao Miyazaki, legendary Studio Ghibli director. Watch the trailer here.
The documentary, directed by Kaku Arakawa, follows Miyazaki as he comes out of retirement to work on a new feature film titled Boro the Caterpillar, his current CGI project.
Viewers are given behind-the-scenes progress updates of the creation of Boro and insights into the life of the man who gave the world classics such as Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.
“When I started filming and following Miyazaki for this documentary, he kept saying that ‘I am just a retired old man,’” Kaku Arakawa said to Little White Lies. “But when he started working together with young CGI artists, I could see his fire started blazing again.”
“He imposes himself to become a slave of the film,” he continues. “He makes himself and everyone who works for the film contribute 100 percent.”
The film will be broadcasted on NHK WORLD TV on June 3 and June 4.
