Jesus walks: Sneakers containing holy water now going for US$3,000 on Stockx

“Jesus Shoes” contains water from River Jordan, believed to be the same river where Jesus was baptized.

“Jesus Shoes” is a custom Nike Air Max 97 sneaker created by the designers MSCHF.

Created by MSCHF, a New York-based creative label, the design takes a stab at collaboration, a practice sneaker brands seem to rely heavily on by imagining what a collab with Jesus would be like.

The “Jesus Shoes” are a pair of custom Nike Air Max 97 containing 59 ml of water sourced from the River Jordan, which runs 251 km along the borders of Jordan, Israel and Syria. It’s believed to be the body of water in which Jesus was baptized.

Other Biblically inspired details on the shoe are an inscription of Matthew 14:25 on the toebox, a steel crucifix on the shoe laces and a red sole alluding to the red leather Papal shoes worn by the Pope.

The “Jesus Shoes” were going for US$1,425 (approx. S$1,964.40), but were sold out within a minute of their online release on Tuesday. The sneakers are now reselling on Stockx.com for US$3,000 (S$4,135.52).
