One of comic book history’s most violent antiheroes, The Punisher will be dishing out plenty of pain alongside the considerably milder vigilante, Daredevil.
Fans of the Daredevil television series were left wondering what the second season would entail, given that the titular character had already defeated his nemesis, the Kingpin. Well, Marvel has just dropped the bomb by announcing that Frank Castle, a vigilante better known as The Punisher, will have a huge role in the next season, and he will be played by Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead fame.
Unlike most of the good guys in Marvel, The Punisher has a much more lethal approach to fighting crime, using his arsenal of weaponry to dispense of enemies without skipping a beat. In the Civil War comics storyline, The Punisher shoots down two super-villains who had intended to aid Captain America in his plan to help superheroes keep their secret identities.
Given that the next Captain America movie is centered on the events of Civil War, there’s a slight chance that The Punisher would crossover and make an appearance in the film.
Nonetheless, The Punisher has had significant screen-time over the last decade, having two movies of his own. Actor Thomas Jane, who played the character in the first film, reprised his role in a made-for-YouTube short that pays tribute to the badass crime fighter:
Season 2 of Daredevil is set to release on Netflix sometime in 2016, and given The Punisher’s involvement in the story, there’s bound to be plenty of guns-blazing moments to be seen.
