Want to keep up-to-date with Kanye West and his first ready-to-wear release with adidas Originals? Be prepared to part with a fair bit of cash.
Less than a month after the Kanye West x adidas Originals Yeezy Season 1 collection hit the runway, we might have an indication of what we can expect to pay for Kanye’s first clothing collaboration with adidas Originals thanks to this leak. Take a deep breath and get ready, these prices might just stun you.
Be prepared to fork out a minimum of €390 (~S$600) for the entry level clothing goods like hoodies and sweatshirts, and up to €3,500 (~S$5,300) for outerwear. Accessories don’t come cheap either, as a Yeezy backpack can cost anywhere from €450 (~S$700) to €650 (~S$1000).
Some might be surprised at these staggering prices, especially since Kanye spoke out against separatism, classism and elitism in an interview with Style.com. As Kanye himself put it, “I’m not here for this to be about me. I’m here to help people. I’m here to help the 14-year-old version of myself that couldn’t afford shit”. But if the rumors that his pieces are made of superior materials at the finest factories in Italy are true, would that justify the hefty prices?
To Kanye’s credit, he did mention in his interview with Style.com that prices might be tweaked. “We’re working on the prices now, I don’t have the exact prices. But what I will tell you is that we’ll eventually get them super-inexpensive. And it will be all about everyone having them,” he said.
Yeezy’s highly sought-after footwear will be easier on the wallet, with the low-top moccasin inspired sneaker, officially called the Yeezy Boost 350, retailing at around €190 (~S$300). The most expensive of the footwear line, the Duck Boot, will go for €450 (~S$700). But the issue plaguing his footwear line is its seemingly limited run. The adidas Yeezy 750 Boost, which saw only 10 pairs being raffled in Singapore, has become hot property and caused reseller prices to skyrocket.
In anticipation of this, Kanye told Ryan Seacreast that “eventually everybody who wants to get Yeezys will get Yeezys”. He added that it was a promise adidas made to him, due to the disparity between supply and demand. “I talked to the head at adidas and they said ‘we can make them’,” he added.
While the official prices of the Kanye West x adidas Oiginals Yeezy Season 1 collaboration have yet to be released, it’s best to have the cash if you’re keen on his collection.
