The second collaboration between the French fashion house and American sneaker company sees the same iconic overpaint applied on a different upper material.
Similar to the Maison Martin Margiela x Converse collection last year, the second collaboration retains the concept of Maison Martin Margiela’s simple and iconic white overpaint on Converse’s All Star Chuck ’70 and Jack Purcell silhouettes. The difference this time is the utilization of ultra-soft premium leather uppers instead of canvas, giving the sneakers a luxurious look and added comfort.
As the sneakers are gradually worn in, the white overpaint loosens and cracks, revealing the leather upper beneath that’s in Converse’s original heritage colorways: Amber Glow or True Navy for the Converse All Star Chuck ’70, and Azure Blue or Biking Red for the Converse Jack Purcell. Additional features include a discreet Maison Martin Margiela logo on the tongue, as well as painted or non-painted lace options.
The Maison Martin Margiela x Converse First String 2014 collection retails for S$299 and is available from May 23rd onwards at Surrender (Raffles Hotel Arcade, #02-31, Singapore 188719) and Converse.
