The year was 1987, and Nike dropped a sneaker that would change the game for years to come – the Air Max 1. The exposed air unit became the signature of the brand, an undeniable symbol of performance cushioning. Then in 1990, with the help of Tinker Hatfield, Nike would release its most recognizable sneaker: the Air Max 90.
2020 is the sneaker’s 30th anniversary, and to pay homage to the timeless runner, Nike’s entire Air Max Day roster is dedicated to the Air Max 90. Scroll on to check out the Air Max Day 2020 releases you can cop on March 26.
Air Max 2090
The Air Max 2090 is the 2020 interpretation of the classic sneaker. The sneaker will drop in a futuristic colorway, blending transparent panels with hits of red, neon blue and silver. This creates a shoe that looks and feels like it belongs in the future. The Air Max 2090 in the OG colorway will drop in men’s, women’s and youth sizing. Air Max 90 and 2090 “Duck Camo”
Nike has dug into its archives and drawn inspiration from the cult favorite 2013 Atmos x Nike Air Max 90 to create the 2020 Duck Camo colorway. The Air Max 90 “Duck Camo” will come with green duck camo prints on the leather panels that stretch from the forefoot to the heel. Underneath the leather is a bright red mesh and on the medial and lateral sides, is a black snake leather Swoosh. The midsoles will come in a mix of white in the forefoot and black on the air unit cassette.
On the other hand, the Air Max 2090 “Duck Camo” is a lot more muted. It comes with predominantly black uppers – black duck camo layered with black leather panels on the sides. Red accents are spotted on the tongue, heel cap and stitching on the leather panel. The midsole comes in white with red air unit cassette.
Both sneakers will drop in men’s, women’s, youth and toddler sizing. It drops on March 26 on Nike SNKRS and select retailers.
Air Max 90 Metallic Pack
If it isn’t already clear enough how important the Air Max 90 is to Nike, the brand has coated the retro sneakers in precious metal (sort of). This women and toddler exclusive pack will see three different metallic colorways – gold, silver and rose gold. The metallic uppers sit on full white outsoles, giving the shoes a super clean look that’s easy to wear daily. The full pack will drop on March 26 on Nike SNKRS and select retailers.
