Nike Air Max Zero: The One Before The 1

To celebrate Nike’s second Air Max Day this March 26th, the brand will be releasing the highly anticipated Air Max Zero, or “The One Before The 1” as Nike puts it.

Nearly three decades ago, Nike’s head designer Tinker Hatfield was inspired by the architecture of the Pompidou Center in Paris. Its exposed skeleton of brightly colored tubes played a role in the design of the timeless and visible Air Max unit. The Air Max Zero was part of the design process leading to the lauded Air Max 1, but Hatfield believed that the Air Max Zero was too far ahead of its time to be materialized.

Fast forward to today, and technological advances have given birth to new and innovative manufacturing processes. Hatfield’s original sketch of the Nike Air Max Zero can now go from paper to production, and that’s exactly what the Nike Sportswear design team did to commemorate this year’s Air Max Day.

The Nike Air Max Zero will come in a white and navy colorway, with a fused upper and a monofilament yarn mesh that will sit atop an Air Max Ultra outsole housing a teal colored visible Air Max unit. Highlights include a Tinker Hatfield scribble on the insole together with the numbers “03/26” to symbolize Air Max Day, as well as a special box along with a plastic hang tag.

To stand a chance to purchase the Nike Air Max Zero, register here from 10am, March 23rd onwards. Registration will end 10pm, 24th March, and the shoes will be available at LE Vault (313@Somerset) on Air Max Day itself. Do note that this will be a limited release.
