Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 Review: 5 Things You Need to Know About the Self-Lacing Sneakers

This is us with the full scoop: read our Nike HyperAdapt review here.

DSM Singapore is holding a customer trialing session from April 12-14

Remember how self-lacing sneakers were nothing but a pipe dream? Well, not anymore now that the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 is available in Singapore.

The chance to try on this technological marvel of a sneaker over at DSM Singapore was too good to pass up on. How good are these HyperAdapts, you may ask? Well, for our Nike HyperAdapt review, here are five things we learnt about the shoe that we think you need to know.

1. The HyperAdapt is definitely a cool sneaker

Who wouldn’t want a self-lacing sneaker? The fact that it functions and looks like just about any other sneaker makes it all the more appealing. Although the light indicators aren’t the selling point, it certainly adds on to the futuristic vibe of the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0.

2. It’s surprisingly more comfortable and versatile than you think

Believe it or not, the shoes feel incredibly light and nimble on the feet. The HyperAdapt is, after all, a performance sneaker – this means the shoe was designed for active use such as running and training. These are so comfortable you might forget that a battery is fitted on either side of the shoe as soon as you start walking in them. You can even pre-set the tightness of the laces so that each time the self-lacing technology is activated, it goes back to that same degree of tightness of your preference.

3. Tighten your laces on the fly, but it could get pretty noisy

While the hallmark self-lacing feature of the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 works seamlessly, you’d have to get used to the unmistakable mechanical sound it makes when activated. Sure, sneaking out of the house at night will be fairly quick with the HyperAdapt, but doing it quietly is a whole other matter. But we feel that overall, this is but a small issue.

4. A single charge is good for 14 days

The sneaker comes with a magnetic charger and each two-hour charge gives you 14 hours of wear. The 14-day measure, however, applies to regular use only.

The light indicators on the sole will let you know when the shoes are out of juice. A blue light signals a fully charged HyperAdapt; the yellow light means the battery is sort of half wearing out; the red light means run for those chargers asap – you’ll have one last chance to unlace before the shoe is flat out of juice.

5. Fancy these self-lacing sneakers? Well, you can get them for a cool S$999.

Well, good things don’t come cheap, do they?

The price point may be steep for a sneaker but for the convenience, the undeniable cool factor, and the technology – the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 could well be worth the splurge.
