Occupy #Straatsnaps: Featuring @gohshaokai

In Occupy #Straatsnaps, we invite professional and amateur photographers from all over the world to take over our Instagram account (@straat0sphere) for a weekend. Last weekend’s edition was contributed by Goh Shao Kai (@gohshaokai).

I count myself a lucky soul to be able to live in this beautiful city. Most people will definitely know of this iconic view of Singapore, with all its amazing skyscrapers and architecture. The sunsets are always different and once in a while if you’re lucky, an amazing view will be produced. I was blessed enough to be able to capture it.

Being in the Instagram scene for quite a while, I was lucky enough to meet loads of people that has the same interest in me. Having said so, I’m proud that some of them turned out to be my buddies now. To me photography isn’t just about taking the shot, it’s about the process, the trip that you go on with friends with and them being there with you at that special moment. That’s what I love about photography so much.

Before enlisting into the army, I went to Hong Kong for a short trip. I’m glad I didn’t cancel my trip despite certain reasons. This shot was taken at Quarry Bay and having seen how this place was overshot, I wanted to try something different. The concept was probably the result of too many movies. I’m pretty damn satisfied with how the picture turned out so far and it’s one of my top 5 favorites.

I love how you can always find something happening in the streets of Hong Kong. It’s always filled with non-stop action and drama. Quoted my friend during his travels to Hong Kong, “In the streets of Hong Kong, within the chaos, there’s always some sort of order to it”, and after hearing that, I couldn’t have agreed more with it.

I love moody vibes and dark tones. It evokes a very strong feeling from within. This photo was taken on a rainy day, I literally had to hold an umbrella in my hand and press the camera shutter with my other. Totally glad that I got the shot even though my camera went for a ‘bath’ in the rain.

This photo was taken at the downtown area of Singapore. I love how the tall buildings surround the straight road leading away from the picture. Once again this shot was taken while I was caught in the rain. I should probably start doing more shoots when it rains.

Went exploring back alleys with my friend the other day. Honestly didn’t have a clue of what to take on that day but once the inspiration kicks in, you just have to take the shot. This marks the end of my takeover. Definitely, hope you guys enjoyed what you saw and do head down to my account if you love to see more. Peace Out!
