Jordan Brand has taken notice of the love for retro Jordans and created the Air Jordan 1 Hi 85, their best recreation of the sneakers first donned by Michael Jordan in 1985. Jordan Brand is debuting the sneaker in the “Varsity Red” colorway, an inverted take on the “Banned/Bred” colorway.
The sneaker uses a mix of black and red leather panels just like the famous “Banned/Bred” colorway but switches the color blocking on the forefoot and midfoot. The sneaker’s heel, color, and red Swoosh remain unchanged. The red leather overlays really help to accentuate the paneling and construction of the sneaker, drawing attention to the details of the Jordan 1’s design. To complete the retro vibes, the sneaker will come with Sail midsoles and red outsoles – just as the OG pair did.
Also in keeping with the original ’85 batch, the sneaker will come with a hangtag printed with the iconic image that captured Michael Jordan mid-flight – the same image that inspired the brand’s logo. The sneaker will be packed into individual dust bags, each one numbered to flaunt its exclusivity – only 23,000 pairs will be made.
Rumors suggest that the sneaker will drop in Feb 2020 for US$200 (approx. S$269.80), which is much higher than the average AJ1 price tag. But Nike has yet to confirm the drop details. Stay tuned for more updates.
