The Shaqnosis is out: “Shaq Fu” sneaker is inspired by Shaq’s failed video game

Shaquille O’Neal is known for many things, but not for his video games.

Reebok pays tribute to the infamy of  Shaq’s failed attempt at creating a video game with the release of the Reebok Shaqnosis “Shaq Fu”.

Multi-hyphenate Shaquille O’Neal is a successful athlete, a father, a platinum-selling rapper, a sports analyst, and more. The one thing he hasn’t done well at? Making video games. The upcoming Reebok Shaqnosis “Shaq Fu” sneaker is inspired by Shaq’s failed attempt at making an 18-bit video game.

Also called “Shaq Fu”, the video game went down in history as one of the worst video games of all time. Though it received praised for its animation and non-linear story progression, its cheap storyline, low level of difficulty and odd character choices made the game the butt of every game critic’s joke.

The sneaker comes in a  black and yellow suede upper with painted midsoles to match, inspired by the “Bruce Lee” aesthetic within the kungfu inspired combat game.

“Shaq Fu” emblems are added to the top and base of the tongue and on the back of the heel. To play up how at odds the martial arts themed game was for the NBA giant, the insoles are painted with Minions, each representing game characters from the video, set against a flaming backdrop. Talk about a fever dream.

This sneaker has dropped in the United States and retails at a price of US$160 (approx. S$225.97). We don’t know yet if these will be available in Singapore.
