Singapore Design Week 2019, organized by DesignSingapore Council, promises a jam-packed two weeks. The diverse programme features something for everyone, whether you’re a student, a design enthusiast, a community advocate, or even a business leader. They’ve got food and entertainment lined up too. It’s a dizzying list, that’s for sure. Here are 8 things you should get excited about.
1) Street of Clans
March 8 to 10
Bukit Pasoh Road
Experience the spirit of community for a weekend at the historic Bukit Pasoh Road – home to many different clan houses. The formation of clans dates back to pre-war days, when communities banded together to lend a hand to fellow immigrants. Aptly named Street of Clans, this festival will open the doors to traditional clan houses such as the Koh Clan and Gan Clan. Check out interactive design installations by artists and designers at each clan house, showcasing old stories through a new medium. You can even get a personalized illustration from the Band of Doodlers, among other activities the festival has in store.
2) Wallpaper* Handmade 2019
From March 7 onwards
National Museum of Singapore, Concourse (Level 1)
Marvel at the creations of some of the best artists, craftsmen, makers and manufacturers all in one place. This showcase curated by Wallpapaer* will feature one-of-a-kind luxury items of furniture, fittings, fashion, and more. Unique? Definitely.

One of the key events of Singapore Design Week 2019 is the International Furniture Fair Singapore. We think you’ll be wowed by furniture designs showcasing key trends, new sustainable concepts and innovative solutions. Here’s a tip: Check out the Buyers Lounge to marvel at some pieces that were featured in the popular movie, Crazy Rich Asians.
6) UNESCO Creative Cities of Design Public Forum

A highlight for the design community, this forum rounds up designers and educators to spotlight best practices and share experiences that can positively impact the areas of education, business, policy, and communications. No messing about here, as 30 delegates from 15 UNESCO Creative Cities of Design will be in attendance.
7) Brainstorm Design 2019

Join in the conversation as global leaders take part in a unique conference to discuss the importance and impact that links businesses, public policy, and design together.
8) Urban Interventions: Bras Basah.Bugis

As the exhibition’s name suggests, three interactive installations will take over Bras Basah.Bugis – Singapore’s Art and Heritage district. We recommend getting your cameras out for the tree harp installations; it will certainly brighten up your Instagram feed.
