Slam Jam’s rebellious Nike Dunk arrives October 30

Italian retailer Slam Jam draws inspiration from their rebellious reputation and relationship with subcultures for their upcoming Nike Dunk high.

Slam Jam has taken a very different approach with their upcoming Dunk. As shown in September, the Slam Jam x Nike Dunk High has a largely traditional colorway – black or light grey paneling on a smooth white leather base. But the difference is in the details.

Instead of leather, the Dunk now gets gummy Swooshes that connect at the heel, forming a protruding heel tab. By being semi-translucent, it creates an outline effect on the Swoosh when it sits on the white leather midfoot – almost like the edges of a black ink blotch on paper. The Swooshes complement the translucent midsole, which creates a similar effect. Its unusual implementation exposes the paneling we normally never get to see within the midsole.

Upping the quirkiness is the perforations on the toe box and midfoot, which are perfectly lined up. Though unusual, the formation adds a unique touch, really differentiating Slam Jam’s Dunk from a regular GR model.

The Slam Jam x Nike Dunk High is a complete deviation from the Nike Blazer they released back in November 2019. Subtlety was abandoned and in its place is an unconventional design with intricate detailing. However, they do share one thing in common – an inverted Swoosh. On the Dunk, the inverted logo appears on the tongue tab.
