Straat Snacks: Soi 60 Thai Restaurant + Bar

Besides traditional Thai fare, Soi 60 offers contemporary and mouth-watering cuisine from the Land of Smiles that will leave you coming back for more.

Beef with Green Peppercorn

Thai cuisine is well-known for its distinct, tangy and sometimes spicy flavors which are sure to tantalize the tastebuds and work up a sweat for those who can’t quite handle the heat. Nonetheless, Thai food has become an integral part of Singapore’s food culture and can be found in many hawker centres and upmarket eateries.

Nestled in a corner of Robertson Quay and sitting right by the Singapore River is Soi 60, a contemporary Thai restaurant and bar that brings together Thai flavors with well-crafted cocktails and drinks.

The menu is conceptualized by Aussie Chef Martin Boetz, who helmed the kitchen at Sydney’s Longrain Restaurant for 13 years, and is executed by Thai Chef Nam Pongpanich, a 27-year-old who honed her craft at the Culinary Institute of America and worked under Michelin-starred Chef Daniel Boulud in New York.

The usual suspects like Tom Yum Soup (S$14) and Prawn Pad Thai (S$22) are present at Soi 60, but this restaurant offers a whole lot more which isn’t commonly found in other Thai food establishments.

Prawn Pad Thai for the traditionalists

For instance, the BBQ Pork Shoulder (S$22) is one of Chef Nam’s specials and boasts chargrilled pork with a tamarind sauce dip. Meat lovers should also go for the Beef with Green Peppercorn (S$20) which contains a hint of spice thanks to the Thai basil and chilli it’s cooked with.

Those who can’t resist curry have four to choose from at Soi 60, but what stood out was the Red Curry (S$22), a bowl of savory gravy with sliced duck meat and pineapples giving it an added oomph. If duck isn’t your fancy, there’s the chicken, beef and vegetable varieties to choose from.

Polish off the meal with one of their decadent desserts like the Mango Sticky Rice (S$10), or indulge in a beer or cocktail. Be sure to opt for an outdoor sitting if you want to take in the quaint evening atmosphere. With its affordable prices and unique take on Thai cuisine, Soi 60 is a definite must-try.
