Temple of Skate Exhibition by Tucks, Presented by Vans: April 21 – 22

Temple of Skate is an exhibition by Singapore artist Tucks (Tuckwai), who happens to also be part of the Vans OTW Art Program.

The exhibition is named after the Temple of Skate, a figment of the artist’s imagination; “an ancient hidden place where folks went to worship the secret art of skateboarding”.

More importantly, the Temple of Skate is where art and skate meet. No surprise, since the artist Tuckwai, also known as Tucks, enjoys creating art illustrations as much as he does skating.

“Someday, I want to have my own studio space big enough to fit a miniramp,” he said in a press release.

His works, influenced by vintage skateboard graphics of the late ’80s, Low Brow art and Japanese Ukiyo-e art, is a curious combination that has caught the attention of the Vans OTW Art Program.

The Vans OTW Art Program, established in 2012, sees Vans working with artists from China, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia to help open up their work to a broader audience. As part of the partnership, artist members of the program usually create capsules that start out with tees, but they may be invited to produce a full head to toe collection eventually.
