With this year’s edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) well underway, here are some key product highlights that might interest you.
Razer’s Project Valerie is a multi-monitor gaming laptop concept that’s set to provide a more immersive gameplay experience through three built-in screens, each with a 17.3-inch 4K IGZO display.
According to Razer, the monitors will have an automatic deployment mechanism that slides out each display, removing the need for additional cables or separate power adapters.
Project Valerie promises to have performance levels similar to the existing Razer Blade Pro, along with a mechanical keyboard, Chroma lighting and a state-of-the-art thermal management system to prevent overheating.
No release date has been set yet, but you can sign up for future updates via Project Valerie’s webpage.
The Active Cushioning Run Profiler, a prototype that showcases adaptive cushioning, was unveiled by Digitsole. The magic comes from within the removable Run Profiler insole, which has built-in sensors that monitor pressure at specific points of the foot. It determines what is known as “foot posture” and uses the real-time data to analyze factors such as stress, force and other general movements.
Through this, the wearer can be alerted via an app if there’s a risk of injury. The insole will also track data such as running speed, distance and calories burnt.
But that’s not all. Digitsole hopes to harness its insole to create shoes that can shift cushioning and support based on data from the insole, to improve performance and minimize injuries.
According to TechCrunch, this will come by way of a “NeoTech microcellular polymer which modifies the hardness of different zones of the midsole by introducing tiny amounts of energy”.
Nvidia, the company best known for its line of graphics cards, unveiled a new Shield TV set-top box that supports 4K HDR streaming for services such as Netflix, YouTube and support for thousands of games.
Included in the sleek game controller and remote is Google Voice Search, meaning you don’t have to leave the couch to find the right app, game or video. Just say the word and the software will get to work, displaying results on screen. Gamers can pick from a whole library of game titles, with more to be added in the near future.
Not content with just producing wearable devices, Fitbit launched its own personal training app, appropriately named Fitstar.
Helping users to achieve their fitness goals, the app features tailored workouts and recommendations. Those who own a Fitbit wearable device will benefit most, as Fitstar will plan future workouts as a form of guidance and suggest customized exercise sessions to target specific body parts.
New Balance makes a late entry into the smartwatch market, but it does so in partnership with tech giant Intel.
What results is the RunIQ, a watch that features a heart-rate monitor, gyroscope and accelerometer. Key highlights include a battery that lasts 24 hours before recharging, and accompanying wireless headphones from Jabra that don’t just play music, but offer audio in-ear coaching for that extra motivation.
