Unicode has finally approved a new batch of emojis for 2017.
Noteworthy additions include a bearded person, a woman with headscarf, and a number of gender neutral emoji options. According to the Los Angeles Times, the bearded man emoji and woman in a hijab emoji were some of the most highly requested emojis.
There have also been additions to the “faces”, “animals” and “food” categories. “Fantasy” emojis such as the mermaid, genie, and vampire also come with the Emoji 5.0 update.
The update will be released sometime in June 2017 – the exact dates depend on the type of phone model used. But according to Forbes, Google and Apple will likely implement the new emojis between October and December 2017.
