In this age of social distancing and working from home, casual wear reigns supreme. Uniqlo, fashion’s king of casual, is capitalizing on this moment to build Uniqlo Town, which is essentially three stores located along Singapore’s prime shopping belt, Orchard Road, each with its own concept.
The three stores that make up Uniqlo Town are located at Orchard Gateway, Plaza Singapura and Ion Orchard. While the first store is currently open, the latter two are due to open only on November 20 and 27, respectively.
Here’s what to expect from each of the stores that make up Uniqlo Town Singapore.
The Uniqlo store at Orchard Central is home to collaborations and customization. Highlights of the store are the Spotlight Corner where the season’s key collabs are showcased and the UTme! T-shirt customization service that allows for personalization of graphic tees. The UTme! customization options are updated from time to time, so you can expect new designs every few months or so.
The Plaza Singapura store is dedicated to Uniqlo’s sustainability efforts in Singapore. Eco-conscious customers can shop from the Sustainability Corner, which showcases Uniqlo’s greener offerings such as their jeans that use 99% less water and DRY-EX apparel made from recycled plastic bottles.
Uniqlo will also use this space to engage local eco-communities. These partnerships will focus on three themes – planet, community and people. One of the partnerships is with Terra SG, a local social enterprise that runs eco-educational programs, which will create an exhibition to showcase everyday items made with Uniqlo fabrics. Another of such partnerships is with jeweler and embroidery artist Inez Designs, whose embroidery work will breathe new life into used apparel.
Completing Uniqlo Town Singapore is the Ion Orchard store. The feature wall located at the stairs connecting both floors of the store will play host to a series of installations created by local artists. The first artist to be showcased is Michael Ng, aka Mindflyer, whose illustration will capture the evolution of Orchard Road.
The store will also have a UT corner dedicated to collaborations with global artists like Daniel Arsham, Takashi Murakami, KAWS and Jason Polan.
