Kanye West has found new faith in god and he wants everyone to know this. Consequently, biblical references have seeped into all facets of his work, including his music and sneakers.
When the names of the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Asriel and Israfil (dropped in August) were first unveiled, Adidas copped major flak from the Muslim community which felt it was disrespectful for shoes to share the names of angels.
Things got so heated that at one point, a petition was set up demanding that Adidas renames the sneakers. It also called for a boycott of the Yeezy line. The global petition has since amassed close to 5,000 signatures.
In response to the public outcry, Adidas has changed the name of the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Asriel to Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Carbon, a more conservative name that only makes reference to its gray-tinged monochrome color blocking.
The Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Carbon is slated to drop globally on October 2.
