YouTube Wants to Make Free Original Shows Too

Add YouTube to the list of Netflix competitors.

YouTube is developing original shows featuring high-profile entertainers like Kevin Hart, Ryan Seacrest, and Ellen Degeneres, as well as musicians Katy Perry and Demi Lovato.

YouTube’s forthcoming original shows will be available to users all over the world for free. According to The Verge, the shows currently in development include a workout themed series by comedian Kevin Hart, titled Kevin Hart: What the Fit?.

In addition, Ellen Degeneres, Katy Perry, and Demi Lovato will provide viewers with exclusive backstage and behind the scenes shows.

Aside from high profile celebrity entertainers, the platform is also currently developing content with internet comedy duo, Rhett, and Link, as well as award-winning science and technology channel, The Slow Mo Guys.

As of today, no release dates have been mentioned but Bloomberg reports that YouTube is looking to produce 40 new original shows over the next year.
