ASICS Tiger has reintroduced the GEL-Respector to its lineup, and we’ve gathered some facts and highlights of this retro runner.
Originally launched in 1991, the GEL-RESPECTOR first arrived in Aster Purple/Black, which was a trending colorway in Europe then. Fast forward to today, sneakerheads can enjoy the re-issue of the OG colorway, along with a myriad of new materials and color schemes.
As part of the silhouette’s 25th anniversary, a slew of collaborations have also been lined up. 24 Kilates and Concepts have released their renditions of the sneaker, and a collaboration with Patta is set to drop next, on March 12th.
Much of the spotlight has been taken up by the GEL-LYTE III and GEL-LYTE V, shoes that came into the market in 1990 and 1993 respectively. Chronologically speaking, the GEL-RESPECTOR sits in between them, and now gets its opportunity to shine.
Like other sneakers in the ASICS Tiger range, GEL technology is present within the molded EVA midsole. The GEL-RESPECTOR shares a similar midsole to the GEL-LYTE III, with parts of the cushioning foam raised around the lateral and medial portions of the mid-foot, providing stability and an improved fit.
Underneath the shoe, the GEL-RESPECTOR also uses the same outsole pattern as the GEL-LYTE III. With a similar midsole and outsole, the GEL-RESPECTOR definitely fits like a GEL-LYTE III, so size up accordingly.
The GEL-RESPECTOR may not have the split tongue of its older sibling, the GEL-LYTE III, or the sockliner found on its successor, the GEL-LYTE V, but it holds its own with a bunch of unique features. These include the toe reinforcement panel found on the uppers, plastic eyelet stays and an oversized heel protector for stability.
